Years ago, many of us in the Hash used to organize and go on backpacking trips. I would like to revive interest in this. Would anyone be interested in a 4 day, 3 night trip in the Pecos Wilderness of New Mexico? The Pecos is within a days drive of Houston and is in the closest mountains suitable for backpacking. Turtle Brains suggested the time around Labor Day weekend. If we go much later, we could run into snow. I was thinking we could rent a van or vans to transport the group.If you are interested, e-mail me directly. Please keep in mind that this is not a Hash camp out where you drive to the spot and drink beer. Backpacking is strenuous work. You carry everything on your back. We will be walking 8 to 10 miles each day with 25 to 40 pounds on your back. Also keep in mind, at a minumum, you will need:hiking boots (running shoes will not support your body weight with a pack) - this is the most important piece of equipment. Get fitted with good ones. back packing tent sleeping bag backpack rain pancho other equipment and food that can be shared (we can discuss once we know who is going)Backpacking requires an initial outlay of funds but once we are there, no money will be spent because there is no place to spend it.This will be no walk in the park. Backpacking is all about "getting it all over you". There will be no showers or toilets. If you need a daily bath, stay in Houston. We will be getting up in the morning and exploring all day with packs on our backs. You will have no problem sleeping at night.Most of the Pecos is between 8,000 and 12,000 feet. We will see lots of wildlife including big horn sheep, mountain goats, marmots, and mule deer. If we are lucky, we may see cougar and black bear. Several of the lakes have trout which can be fished. Truchas Peek is the second highest peek in New Mexico and can be climbed with minimal effort. The closest city is Santa Fe. We could schedule a side trip on our way out. Ironman Arizona 2007

The 2300 people were all dressed in their black wetsuits. They all waded or jumped into the water like a troop of penguins leaving an iceberg. They swim to the start line 150 meters away. Prior to starting they had to tread water for 15 minutes waiting to begin the 2007 Arizona Ironman.
The Ironman is an endurance event consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, followed by a 26.2 mile run. The Ironman grew out of a bar room argument in Hawaii about which was the tougher event, the long swim across the bay, the bike ride around the island of Oahu, or the Honolulu marathon. To settle the disagreement a few guys decided to try all three. Fifteen men showed up for the 1st race, 9 finished. Today, 30 years later, thousands show up for the races worldwide.
I was in the water waiting with the others. The starting canon goes off and I am immediately kicked in the face. I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I shake it off and start swimming. It is 7am and the sun is rising. The first leg of the swim is directly east, straight into the sun. I can’t really see where I am going but I am surrounded by swimmers and everyone is headed the same direction. I am constantly being bumped, scraped, and slapped by the herd. This is more like a rugby match then a swim. We eventually reach the turn buoy and the swarm becomes tighter. It’s shoulder to shoulder. We make the last turn and head west. The sun is now behind us and I can see a dotted line of orange buoys stretched far off towards the bridge near the starting line. The pack never thins out. It’s full contact the whole way.
I reach the exit point and climb up the stairway out of the water. There are a group of “strippers” to help everyone get out of their wetsuit. I unzip the back and pull it down. I sit on the ground and someone pulls the rubber suit off my legs. I hop up and head to the transition area. I am handed my numbered gear bag and enter the tent I dump my cycle gear on the ground and shove my swim stuff into the bag. I don my jersey and shoes and run out the other end of the tent. Girls are there to slather me with sunscreen as I put on my bike helmet.
I run out the gate into a sea of racked bikes. I locate my yellow bike and start running to the mounting line. I jump on and click my shoes into the pedals. The first section is thru the downtown area but soon heads out into the desert. The route is three 36 mile loops. The wind is hateful that day. The day before had been calm, but this morning a front had come in and the wind was 25mph with gusts of 45 miles. Going out of town was fast with the wind at my back, but once I turned around it was full speed in my face. In most bike races the riders group together and draft, but in triathlons drafting is illegal. Everyone is leaning down on their aerobars to minimize the effect.
I have a lot on time to think on the bike. I choose this race in particular because it was staged in Phoenix, Arizona. A little more then a year my wife, Cheryl, and I and had a baby. We named him Phoenix Malcolm and had great hopes for him. But due to a cruel fate he was born way too early and therefore had many complications. He died after 41/2 months. Cheryl and I were heartbroken. We are better now but will never be completely over it. As I ride I look at the photo of little Phoenix I have taped on my bike. Then I think a happy thought. The new baby girl, Kayla Zane, is on the way and will be here in a month. Cheryl is 8 months pregnant, that is why she is not at the race to cheer my on. This thought gives me a mental boost and I power into the wind.
After the third lap I’m more then ready to get off the bike. I cruise in to the transition area and hand my bike to one of the many volunteers. I’m handed my T2 run bag. I change in to my run shoes and trot out of the tent. Before I leave I’m recovered with sunscreen to protect me against the relentless sun.
My legs don’t want to go. I feel worn down from the windy ride. But I am able to jog down the trail on the first of three loops I make it to the first water station and I’m handed a wet sponge. This is very refreshing in the hot desert sun. I drank some water followed by a shot on cola. I trot off wondering if I can make it to the next station. I manage to keep moving my feet. After a few miles I get into a better rhythm and maintain a decent speed. Each loop passes near the finish line and I wish I could stop, but I keep trudging forward. On the 3rd loop I start getting some painful cramps. I’m forced in to short sections of walking. I count 40 steps of walking then run until the next series of cramps. The pain is bad but not getting worse. I keep moving. I can see the end and manage to run a little faster I cross the finish line and the announcer says over the mike “Kyle Hensley you are an Ironman”. This makes my happy. But I’m even happier that I can stop running. Everything hurts and I’m a little delirious.
After going thru the finishers shoot, I get a quick massage the sit down in the grass and think about the day. I am grateful I’m given the opportunity to do this insane thing. My wife Cheryl is great for allowing me the time to go out and train for countless hours. I think about little Phoenix but this time it is a happy thought. I feel I’ve honored him well by giving everything I had today.
My cousin Charla finds me. She has brought me a beer. Normally this would be a great thing, but I’m too tried to drink it right now. Charla watches over me as I gather by bike and other gear. I had a good day. My total time was 12 hr and 11 minutes and 44 seconds. This is 19 minutes better then my previous time. I’m proud of this. But I’m already thinking about what I can do better for next time. Later, I do manage to drink that beer.

this is sorta want i want to change it to---a sea turtle. Galveston has a research facility. i like the turtle idea because we could do so much with the inside of the shell. i was thinking an "ON ON foot" inside the shell instead of that line for the basic design, but other versions could be a Texas flag, "GH3", hurricane symbol, etc, etc. What do ya'll think???? open to all ideas.

my 2007 rodeo experience

the houston livestock show and rodeo is one of the biggest rodeo events in the world. As a kid, we raised dairy goats and showed animals every year--i took home a grand champion one year. But, there is no auction, you just get a trophy and go home.

anyway, i usually end up going to a show/concert every year--i saw sheryl crow this year. she said she, "loves houston, loves the rodeo, and is looking for a cowboy" and added, "i haven't given up on texas yet." i thought that was funny.

after the show, we went dancing on the floor of the astrodome--THE FLOOR OF THE ASTRODOME! it seemed so small. i remembered the astros' games, the houston hurricanes, previous rodeos, destruction derbies, motocross and even when i volunteered for katrina victims, but that night--it seemed small. It is cool that they set it up as a "night club" for after the rodeo--don't think many people get to experience such a thing in other cities or other big domes

i was at work, in the breakroom, talking to this guy about the hash--tellin' him he should go--he loves beer and is starting to run more PLUS, I am haring the run and can assure him accurate milelage and such.....

one of the MD's over hears and said, "are you talking about hashing?" it seems she used to hash in guatamala, but when she got to philadelphia, there was too much emphasis on running, so she stopped

meanwhile, another girl hears and says, "my boyfriend would love that!" i give her the hash line number, tell her some of the details..... (she cannot go--she will be out of town, but her boyfriend might)

thursday afternoon rolls around, this guy call me and says he cannot make the run, he is way out of town and cannot be there by 7pm--i say, just get there by 7:30 and he is off

i guess he got there at 7:15, i did not tell anybody about him, but a bunch of people were asking, "are you pimp's brother" he would respond, "no, but i am looking for him" the hash would reply, "US, TOO, he is suppose to lay the trail tonight!"

i showed up at 7:25, laid the trail and closed the on-on-on (with jason, my apparent look-alike ????)

btw, he has already signed up for TXIH--so when you see him, ask "ARE YOU PIMP'S BROTHER?"

kim hughes, coach of the clippers

so, after the concert, we walked down to the brewery tap for a few beers. noticed two 6"11" guys at the bar that looked alike--how could you NOT notice this?? i started up a conversation (that was scary). Found out they were twins. Kim Hughes is an assistant coach for the clippers (they were in town against the rockets that night). i wish i knew more about basketball, but i held my own. I don't know how much he had to drink, but he turned to me and asked if i liked Yao Ming--i stuttered a few things that and he stopped me!! He said, "Yao Ming is a pussy!" My memory faded that night, so i am not sure THOSE were the exact words he used, but that was the jist.

i have been going to concerts for a long time
i went to a bunch during my high school and just after high school days
i had a mullet "business in the front--party in the back"
went with puppy prick to a few shows--two being judas priest and twisted sister
dokken opened for both bands
Puppy prick loved dokken, the crowd was slightly subdued during their performance
except for puppy prick, he was on his chair screaming
i looked at him and said, "sit down, dokken sucks"
he seemed personally offended by this
later, when twisted sister took the stage--the crowed erupted. the music started, he turned to me with the biggest smile on his face and said, "DOKKEN SUCKS"

so, while at the Toadies concert, there was some band playing and he seemed to enjoy them, i reminded him, that DOKKEN SUCKS

Love this band

first saw them at a local radio station's fall concert (94.5 the buzz in 1995). Tears for fears was the headliner, ECHOBELLY played first, then an unknown band NO DOUBT--We left after the TOADIES and during the first notes of "shout, shout, let it all out...."

i saw them a few more times in Houston, then the chic bass player was sad and did not want to do it anymore, so they disbanded.

they had a farewell tour in 2002--probably the best i have ever seen them

UNTIL this month, they did a three city reunion tour (including 2 sold out shows at stubbs in austin)

four hashers went--first round of drinks, Rubbin's states, "damn, that was half a keg $$$"

Then we started getting free beer from this guy (who apparently gets in free and gets free beer). i had to tell him "no more" after awhile, but he kept bringing them anyway.

concert was good, not the best that i have seen them, though

new chapter---I REALLY LIKE A NEW BAND--Todd Lewis (front man for toadies) leads it

this was an event like no other and will never be another like it. I am just going to list things:

We had an entire school to ourselves--FREE!!!
stage was awesome--just like every other elementary school
i had a classroom to myself, with a sink and a window to pee out. I even hung some clothes in the closet and wrote stuff on the black board. light sockets to re-charge my phone and power my fan and radio.
girls were dressed in their school girl outfits
no band, but better, there was a sketch comedy group that performed for us--very nice change
dick the boy wonder was in the ENCLOSED library. it did not matter though, he passed out early
my first time to play beer pong--a great time waster
i rode the bus sitting next to donnie the retard--he is funny
i ended up with the walkers, relaxing on trail and we were treated to a beer check that no one else was--a friend of this guy married a hasher, so he filled up several cups of beer and had his kids pass them out to us. we stopped chatted, they got more beer for us and we sang them a song.
great food, company 0f others, puppy' pricks fire spinning.......

i seriously walked around thinking, "are we really here, are we really doing this" it seemed sureal.

Floppie the Banjo Clown was used as a “hired gun” by rock musicians who wanted to beef up their sound on tour. He played with virtually every important rock band that ever toured. Unfortunately for Floppie, his stints with each band were short lived. This is because Floppie would get so excited while playing his banjo solos that he would “flop” backwards onto the floor. This almost always led to injury. As a result, he was forced to leave the line-up, and of course, never get paid. This accounts for his slightly tattered “hobo” appearance (and quite possibly contributed to his “sad” demeanor…although there is evidence that he was a bit melancholy throughout his life.)But more importantly, Floppie’s untimely departure forced photographers to doctor any photos they had taken that had Floppie in them! That’s right, they removed him from the pictures! This may sound shocking, but it’s also completely understandable. This was the only way they could sell their photos to media outlets who always demand photos that are “up-to-date.” But the tragic result is that Floppie’s contribution has not gotten proper recognition.

things i don't like: a little big (that is why it is cheap), heavy (must be the AA batteries).

i sprained the shit out of my ankle!!! all the ditches, pot-holes, curb jumping finally caught up to me. NOT. I SPRAINED IT WHILE CHASING CALENDAR GIRL DOWN SOME STAIRS AT A PLAYGOUND. how horrific it must have been for the other kids and parents to watch me lay there in pain for at 10-15 minutes, breaking out into a cold sweat, trying to decide whether or not to pass out or throw up. this picture was taken a week after it happend--it was alot more swollen before. funny how the bruising developsl, then migrates to the toes and such. the good thing is all the time off work i am getting (tapping into that EIB, that i never thought i would see) and the dr gave me vicodin!!!!!

it is peyote

my dad is hippie--a real hippie. lived in a VW camper van and traveled the americas when he got a divorce. as far north as alaska and south to central america. his stories were the best--the good and bad things he would stumble upon. he brought me some pottery (a cup) once and told how he spent a month learning the skill and hanging out. did not seem real, just another of his tall tales from the road. i still have the cup--i use it to keep pens, coins, ?, in it. i recently examined it closer , found the name "MANA" and googled it. i was amazed at what i found. HE IS FAMOUS (sort of). i want ya'll to go to his website and 'look' around. Anyway, MY CUP has my name (eric), his name (michael), his symbol (turtle), the date 1979 (i was 11yrs old) on the bottom. Unfortunately he hd a stroke and it really affected his language area, those stories and other follow up stories are lost forever--makes me sad, even more sad that he wasn't around has much as he should have been. are you wondering how peyote plays into this, go to the website.

a long time ago, in an interpersonal communications class, we had a lecture about JOHARI'S WINDOW. i was facinated and have always kept that lecture close to my thoughts from time to time. i remember looking for "it" (the info) online a few times, but never found anything-- NOW, i have and thought i would share the links: THIS ONE IS GOOD and WIKIPEDIA

i think it is especially intresting in the blogging community. HERE, we can open up to strangers and tell all (making box 1 huge) or make a bunch of stuff up (making box 3 huge our facade) and if we do not get alot of comments, box 2 will grow, because we really do not know what people really think of us. Box 4 is what is burried deep inside of our subconcious.

In this model, each person is represented by their own window. Let's describe mine:

1. The "open" quadrant represents things that both I know about myself, and that you know about me. For example, I know my name, and so do you, and if you have explored some of my website, you know some of my interests. The knowledge that the window represents, can include not only factual information, but my feelings, motives, behaviors, wants, needs and desires... indeed, any information describing who I am. When I first meet a new person, the size of the opening of this first quadrant is not very large, since there has been little time to exchange information. As the process of getting to know one another continues, the window shades move down or to the right, placing more information into the open window, as described below.

2. The "blind" quadrant represents things that you know about me, but that I am unaware of. So, for example, we could be eating at a restaurant, and I may have unknowingly gotten some food on my face. This information is in my blind quadrant because you can see it, but I cannot. If you now tell me that I have something on my face, then the window shade moves to the right, enlarging the open quadrant's area. Now, I may also have blindspots with respect to many other much more complex things. For example, perhaps in our ongoing conversation, you may notice that eye contact seems to be lacking. You may not say anything, since you may not want to embarrass me, or you may draw your own inferences that perhaps I am being insincere. Then the problem is, how can I get this information out in the open, since it may be affecting the level of trust that is developing between us? How can I learn more about myself? Unfortunately, there is no readily available answer. I may notice a slight hesitation on your part, and perhaps this may lead to a question. But who knows if I will pick this up, or if your answer will be on the mark.

3. The "hidden" quadrant represents things that I know about myself, that you do not know. So for example, I have not told you, nor mentioned anywhere on my website, what one of my favorite ice cream flavors is. This information is in my "hidden" quadrant. As soon as I tell you that I love "Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia" flavored ice cream, I am effectively pulling the window shade down, moving the information in my hidden quadrant and enlarging the open quadrant's area. Again, there are vast amounts of information, virtually my whole life's story, that has yet to be revealed to you. As we get to know and trust each other, I will then feel more comfortable disclosing more intimate details about myself. This process is called: "Self-disclosure."

4. The "unknown" quadrant represents things that neither I know about myself, nor you know about me. For example, I may disclose a dream that I had, and as we both attempt to understand its significance, a new awareness may emerge, known to neither of us before the conversation took place. Being placed in new situations often reveal new information not previously known to self or others. For example, I learned of the Johari window at a workshop conducted by a Japanese American psychiatrist in the early 1980's. During this workshop, he created a safe atmosphere of care and trust between the various participants. Usually, I am terrified of speaking in public, but I was surprised to learn that in such an atmosphere, the task need not be so daunting. Prior to this event, I had viewed myself and others had also viewed me as being extremely shy. (The above now reminds me of a funny joke, which I cannot refrain from telling you. It is said that the number one fear that people have is speaking in public. Their number two fear is dying. And the number three fear that people have, is dying while speaking in public.) Thus, a novel situation can trigger new awareness and personal growth. The process of moving previously unknown information into the open quadrant, thus enlarging its area, has been likened to Maslow's concept of self-actualization. The process can also be viewed as a game, where the open quadrant is synonymous with the win-win situation.

Does that seem like a strange question to you?

We had some great asparagus at the crab hash and pee discussions ensued. I mentioned that "it is fun to eat because it makes your pee smell funny"--some people did not know what i was talking about. I thought it affected everybody the same way---turns out, Only some people (about half) have the gene for the enzyme that breaks down mercaptan into its more pungent parts. The process is so quick that your urine can develop the distinctive smell within 15 to 30 minutes of eating asparagus. HERE is one of the articles i found.

first night there i went with ass grabber to surf behind the boat. the throttle broke, we had to cruise back with his tiny back up motor with no lights after dark.

the weekend torture continued--I took the girls to another sporting event!!!! "awwww dad.... i don't wanna go to the game"

this was my first game to go to this season. have to go every year to get the "mandatory" photos taken. i took some of these from the right field outfield deck seats. my camera zooms pretty good.

it is intersting to see the changes in the park form and notice things that i have never noticed before.

there is a "homerun" pump in center field--it counts up every home run--the count is at 706, my first picture was when it was 12.

yesterday, my birthday, went to the circus. the circus is usually in town in houston near my birthday (hey teach, how is that for grammar?).

summary: picked up an extra 6 yr old for the evening, it cost $8 to park at reliant, found a coupon-got $6 off per ticket, bought the cheapest seats ($17-6= 11), the pre-show was crowded and could not see much (mental note, get there earlier next year), did not sit in cheap seats, girls whined--wanted sno cones, girls kept whining, seats around me filling up, better change seats, girls still whining, OK! LET'S GO GET SNOW CONES!-they cost $10, now, let's enjoy the show, "mr eric, i dropt my spoon," amber fell asleep in my lap, show over, had to carry her out, she cried most of the way out and on the way home.

I remember way back, in college, part time job, living at home--got that first credit card. After "breaking it in" (dinner with the girlfriend) ---I bought a nice stereo. Pioneer, big floor speakers, dual cassette, turntable, could only play one cd at a time (which was ok, I had a ton cassettes). It was loud--I thought I was hot shit! I could hardly turn it up while my mom was home and when she was not, paint was coming off the walls (not really).

Now, in my first house, the stereo was more important than the TV. I proudly displayed those huge speakers (one on each side of the living room--hid the speaker wire under the carpet. I joined BMG and started replacing the cassettes with cd's, added a cd changer (100, I think it was).

Next thing you know, married, bigger house and I have two 2oo disk cd changers, hidden Bose bookshelf speakers on the cherry wood armoire and 'speaker splitter' and have (hidden) speakers all over the house. My big, nice floor speakers--one broke, the other hooked up in the garage :(

NOW, I have all of my music on my lap top syc'd with my mp3 player--over 5000 songs--mostly from my cd's--very little digital file 'sharing' and no $ downloads. My speakers look like they came from another planet and they are unbelievably LOUD--when I turn them up, my ears hurt. I paid under $40 for them on eBay.

What next???

i guess it is gone... my WART, that is.

it was on my knee. i froze it a long time ago, but it came back. i used some of those other salicylic acid products but they would have taken forever to dissolve it.

THIS TIME i injected the area with lidocaine and sliced it off with a scalpel. i was amazed at how vascular it was. let me rephrase that, I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE HOW VASCULAR THAT LITTLE NUB WAS. it would not stop bleeding--don't know why it would not clot. I put a pressure dressing on it for the night (mc donalds napkin with masking tape--how is it that nurse has no sterile gauze or bandage tape--don't worry, i added it to my "borrow from work" list)

the next day, i froze the shit out of the site--don't know if that was recommend, it hurt like hell and the skin was blanched all around. guess what, it bled some more.

anyway, after the destruction (that i caused) was healed, i now have normal skin and no wart

went to NB for a few days--floated the COMAL with the girls, my mom and gweemie

i love this spot on the guadelupe. It is the river crossing at Gruene. Most people end their trip here. if you don't have alot of time to commit to a tubing excursion, this is great place to chill for a few hours.

i put my lawn chair and cooler as close to the rapids as i can get--usually under the shade of one of the cypress trees and CHILL. it is never ending entertainment watching people finish up their rafting or tubing adventure. Good company is a MUST!

one time, after a few beers, i thought it would be fun to "do" this set of rapids without a au natural (without a float, tube or raft).

made it between the first set of rocks without much harm, them i took one to the ass, now i started to get nervous, put my hands down a little there goes the elbow--somehow got turned sideways and began to "roll" forcefully down the 'stair-like' falls. when i got the calm water, it took a few minutes to remember how to breathe again. both elbow, knees, hands, butt cheeks--ALL DAMAGED--most damaged--my ego!

rented a house lago vista with my buds from high school--they brought some boats

It is a good thing i am a hasher, because it takes THAT kinda 'practice' to keep up with my friends from HS. I drank more here than any interhash weekend. did not go to bed until 5am either night; lost more money a hold'em then i'd like to admit.

went wake boarding for the first time: my tendons/muscles are so damn sore that it is difficult to type or hold my arms up to shampoo my hair, so i waited until today to shower--(glad all of my kids have great IV access tonight). oh, did i say wake boarding--more like "they draggged me behind their boat with my feet strapped to a board" CAN YOU SAY "FACEPLANT"?

AUSTIN TRAFFIC---i do not mind if austin is my final destination, but when you are cruising 75-80, then slow down and stop a bunch going thru austin--THAT SUCKS!! and what is up with the freeways, ending, with little notice and then a detour--AUSTIN TRAFFIC SUCKS!

falling on your face hurts alot more as an adult then it does as a kid. those rental skates sucked, good edge on the right, not so good on the left--skate slid right out from under me-- luckily my left knee, right elbow and sternum were there to break my fall. she said, "daddy, lets go out to the middle" i replied, "i'd rather figure out how to breath again." Not to mention the lack of arch support in the plastic boots. it was calendar girls first time, she loved it--which reminds me, i need to get her some roller skates

the other day, we went to hermann park, played on the playround, played in the authorized fountains and played in the unauthorized relecting pool, got a little emo about gravel in the sandals, fixed everything with a snow cone, lingered a bit at the outdoor theater and watched young chinese girls do ballet rehearsals.

today, i had a podiatrist appt, had a great breakfast, put together shelves and entertainment center for the play room, i did some laundry, got some gas, ran/walked while scouting trail (i am always scouting trail). hope everybody else had a good day, too.

1. my mom is a lesbian--parents were divorced when i was 5ish. she had a serious partner during most of my growing up (grade shool to past high school). the partner had 2 daughters ("my sisters")--when they "broke" up, i lost complete touch with the sisters. Her current, and hopefully last, partner is one year older than i am. she and her SO have been to 3-4 hash events.

2. my dad is the oldest of 7 kids, alter boy, corp at A&M, masters degree in micobiology--now he is a hippy living on a comune is washington state. he goes by "lone turtle." during most of my growing up, he lived in a VW camper van, traveling the US (even alaska), canada, and central america. he'd pick my brother and i up for summer vacations. my mom never asked for or rec'd child support. i think he is one of the smartest men i know. recently he had a stroke, it affected his speech and language areas. he is fine physically. he and his SO have been to a hash.

3. i was in the navy, 2 years active duty--philly, norfolk, st thomas, rio, acapulco, san diego--"did you like it?" yes, now that i am out--it was a real motivator to get a job that i like and that would pay well. i wish i was hashing then.

4. have been an RN for almost 15 years at texas children's hospital--i feel that i am overpaid and underworked. i used to tell alot of people about hashing at work--they all seemed intrested, several came out once.

5. dispite having a hr in the low 50's, fairly good endurance, eat pretty healthy, i am on blood pressure and thyroid meds--fucking genetics! i don't take my BP at work often--i don't like the numbers

6. at any given day, i can tell you my daughters exact age--today, she is 6 years, 4 months, 30 days old. she has hashed several times and was named CAlandar girl.

ever watch those shows with the cops chasing criminals and they ditch the car and try and run from the cops. rarely do they get very far. sometimes, while hashing in and around houston i think, "now this would be a good place to ditch the car, run through those woods, into that tunnel, across that abandoned bridge and then......"

i know that we cannot outrun the radios and may not be able to hide from the helicopters, but if you bail before the call the helo, you might have a chance.

baseball season is upon us! a long way to the fall classic but should be entertaining along the way. some fans do not even get excited until the playoffs (some don't care at all). myself, while at home, it is good background noise for the TV or radio--"tuning" in when you hear the announcers getting excited, or see a couple of men on base. it can also be a good distraction while running, play by play broadcasters creating an image for you.

there is a conoco home run pump in the outfield, it counts up every astros' home run. our first picture at ENRON field was 12. my last visit to Minute maid park was 594. also, we have a brick for calendar girl. we bought one for puddle jumper, but i don't know if it has been 'installed' yet.

btw, it is virtually impossible to watch a game with two little girls. all they care about is going up and down the steep concrete stairs, eating 2-3 bites of a hot dog, drinking a spirte, getting ice cream and catching a ride with the "bike taxi"

i kept noticing bees flying around near my garage--further investigation revealed a swarm in my neihbor's bush (stop giggling!). they called a local bee keeper and for $65 he vaccumed them up and took them away. learned some things, getting better at trivia every day

Responsibilities of a blogger

now that half a dozen hashers have links to my site from theirs, what are my responsibilities as a "blogger"? should i post something everyday? detail my schedule in the column? add a link to every hasher i know (or just the ones that have left comments on my page)?

And, am i that vain to believe that "I" am THAT interesting, to think that someone out there is reading my site and actually cares what i have to say? And, in turn, how would i know they were lurking? Is it THEIR responsibility to leave a comment?

In turn, do i HAVE to read THEIR stuff and post comments to let them know i was lurking?

BLOGGING, for such a casual thing, SURE IS STRESSFUL!!!!

... especially on the internet--probably not a good idea to use her real name! "why no pics of younger one?" someone asked. mainly because she is not STILL enough to get a good shot. thank goodness for digital photography--i can delete all of those shots when she turn her head at the last minute.
